Best way to attach grommets to curtains?
I have some valances hanging from a wire in my Living Room. I think I would like to get rid of the clips I’m using now and use grommets instead, but I’ve never used grommets before. Do I cut the hole first or attach the grommet first? What if I cut the hole too big? Will the hole fray? Is it worth it or not? Any thoughts? I made the valances from cotton home dec material from Hancock.
Thanks!
Where can I find a machine? I live in a small town.
The easiest thing to do is get a set of grommets and a mallet. Place the grommet where you want, hammer it on, and then burn off the fabric with a match. Sometimes just punching the grommet in with a mallet/hammer cuts out the circular little piece of fabric.
Tip: Make sure you put a wood block on the bottom underneath the grommet before you hammer it down to avoid damaging either the grommet or the surface you are using as a base.
