Chickens Kitchen
I have four Peking/bantam cross chickens . When will they start to lay?

The hens are about five/six months. Do I need to do anything, change they’re , feed housing in preparation? How many eggs can i expect?
They are currently on good quality commercial chicken feed and kitchen veg scraps . They roam around the garden freely all day and scratch and peck for vegetation, worms and bugs ect. They have a wooden house protected by chicken wire to bed in . Thanks.

They are about at the right age to start laying but it’s not an exact science! As the days get shorter and the weather cools then egg production decreases. To begin with you might only get 3 a week but by the time next Spring comes you should be getting an egg a day from each of them. Even after having chickens nearly all my life, I still love going to the hen house to see if I have any eggs!
Oh another thing, bantams are notorious for laying anywhere other than the hen house, so if you may have to keep an eye out for hidden nests.
