What kind of animal kills other animals, stealing their heads, leaving their bodies, with little blood?
I owned 3 chickens and a little black rooster. Recently, we opened the chicken coop and all 4 animals were dead. There was very little blood, yet every animal was missing it’s head. If it helps, we live in the country and we also live in Maine, a state in the farthest east of the US.
What sort of animal could have done this?

The article refers to GHO predation of a tern colony, but they do the same thing to chickens in a coop.
I remember when I volunteered at the Avian Rehabilitation Center, we had 3 GHOs, and they are very nasty birds. If you have a GHO preying on your chickens, do not attempt to chase it off yourself – it can and will attack a human and do some considerable damage with its claws! Having a dog outside to protect the coop at night is also not recommended, as a GHO can kill a dog. These birds can kill a porcupine and have been known to come out the winner in a battle with a badger.
