To gauge the magnitude of Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’s popularity in his native Hawaii, consider this: following his death in 1997 (at age 38, attributed to his profound obesity), Kamakawiwo’ole’s body lay in state in the state capitol, only the second person to receive such an honor. Kamakawiwo’ole’s appeal lies in his love for prestatehood, precondominium Hawaii and the expressiveness of his gently p…

Some singer/songwriters (think Paul Westerberg and Elliott Smith) develop their world-weariness through the unforgiving trials of passing years and the heart-breaking grind of the music business. Others (Van Morrison, Neil Young) seem to have sprung from out of nowhere with the fully formed soul of a life well-lived. Ray LaMontagne belongs with the latter. On this, his debut, LaMontagne has crafte…

Gosford Park finds director Robert Altman in sumptuously fine form indeed. Aristocrats gather together for a weekend shooting party with their dutiful servants in tow, and the upstairs/downstairs division of the clas…

How do you cook boneless country style ribs?

Ok there was a sale on these at the store and ive been craving ribs without the bone so… now how do I cook em??
thanks for helping but… can anyone give me an exact recipe? what spices how long what temp in the oven (we dont have a grill)

It’s important to par boil them before cooking, so they are tender. Place the ribs in a large pot (I usually lay them in a row of 3 – 4, then alternate the direction (crosswise) for the next row of 3 – 4, etc). Season well with garlic (fresh or the chopped jar type is best, but powdered will do in a pinch), pepper, and salt. Pour on about 1 cup vinegar (either regular white or red wine) – the vinegar will also act to tenderize the meat. Add 1 cup teriyaki sauce (or other sauce), if you have it. Add water to completely cover the meat. Put on stove, bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat to medium-low and par boil for at least 1 hour.
Carefully remove ribs from pot (use tongs, if you have them) to baking dish. Brush on BBQ sauce, bake uncovered at 325 for 30 minutes. (Or you can grill on the BBQ, but these will be ‘falling apart’ tender, so be careful if cooking outdoors). Grilling on top of several sheets of foil or in a grilling basket will work.
