Dupioni Drape
Suggestion / Sanity Check for Drapes?

Hi there…my fiancee and i just moved into a new townhouse and we are in the process of exploring our options for window treatments (lucky us…it’s not cheap!). We have two 6′ sliding glass doors in our Living Room that are side-by-side, that open toward one another, with ~10″ of wall separating the doors. We’ll end up having to put drapes that will open to either side of the entire door, because there’s not enough wall room in between the door for curtain. Given that, each panel will need to be roughly the width of the door (~72″).

I’m looking at an online stoor (theshadestore.com) that has Custom Drapes in Silk Dupioni with a tailored pleat. The price quote is $1,335 for that drape. Does that seem reasonable for a Custom Drape, and do you have any suggestions for a more economical approach for Drape Panels that are 72″ wide?

Crazy….no that is not reasonable!!! Here are a couple options I hope you consider: JCPenny really has a large selection and there are many you can order in custom sizes. Check out their website at www.jcp.com. They have beautiful Silk Drapes for about a $100 a panel. Seriously, go into one of the stores with your measurements and they will take care of you. Although not shown online, they helped me with drapes specifically made for patio doors. Another option is to ask around your area for a local seamstress. It’s amazing what they can do and you can buy beautiful luxury fabric from a fabric store and have them Custom Made.
