What fabric are Lolita dresses made from?
My friend’s making a Lolita dress, and I’m helping her. What type of fabric would be suitable to make the body of the dress out of? I know you can use lace for parts of it but you don’t want a full lace dress. Any ideas?
The fabric used to make Lolita dresses is almost always cotton. The cotton should be thick enough so that it is not opaque. High quality velvet can be used sometimes, but it takes a very good petticoat to hold it up. Satin, PVC and crushed velvet are never acceptable.
As for lace, cotton is preferred, but other lace can be used so long as it is not scratchy and is durable. If it’s not cotton, it’s not a good idea to use lots of it. It can be hard to find cotton lace, but there’s almost always at least some in the craft section of Walmart or in craft stores. For a larger selection, I suggest buying off of the internet.
