HELP!!! painting paneling!?
all of our rooms are paneling, but the kitchen.
I don’t want to wall paper (ick) and i really don’t have the time to fill in the grooves. with mud. I have done dry wall. but like i said time is a big problem, and taking down the panel and putting up dry wall is not gonna happen. also it just panel nothing under it.
i thought maybe for the kids room ages 4 and 1 i could maybe paint the lines a differ color…so it looks stripe? has anyone did that or do u think it would look bad? their both girls and the oldest wants pink and purple I thought pink base purple stripes and trim all in purple.
all the paneling is not a glossy kind its dull but very smooth. i want to get out of sanding. i was told there is a primer made just for paneling so u don’t have to sand. I really cant have it peel the youngest would EAT IT!
You’re right, there IS a primer that you can use that eliminates the need for sanding (I saw it on a home-improvement show) but I don’t know what it is. Guess you could go to wherever you intend to buy the paint, and ask what they recommend?
Painting the purple stripes sounds like a fun look for little girls, but might turn out to be a lot of work. Painting the trim purple … hmmm … do you mean baseboards and window-frames and door-frame? I’d do the walls first and then decide if you really want more purple! I’d be tempted to give the trim a fresh coat of bright white, and for several reasons. The white will make the wall-color really POP! And, a few years down the road, when the girls decide they want their walls painted again, you won’t have to redo all that trim. Also, if you ever decide to sell the place, you WILL have to repaint purple trim (possibly involving stripping, definitely sanding because of the glossy finish, priming, and painting), whereas, if it’s white (which goes with everything), maybe just a little touch-up!
