Thanks largely to his work with director David Lean, composer Maurice Jarre’s career was at a peak during the mid-1960s. This collection presents ample evidence that his creative talents ably rose to the occasion as well. If John Frankenheimer’s Cinerama Formula One racing epic Grand Prix was a sometimes schizophrenic mix of romantic trysts and innovative cinematic racing excitement, Jarre managed…

Other Grand Prix‘s in Formula One?

I watched it yesterday and enjoyed it and I was wondering when are the other Grand Prix’s after this one today?

Also If a kind soul could help explain the rules of the sport it would be much appreciated

The next race starts in 6 hours and that is the Brazilian GP. After that is the final round at Abu Dhabi.
Go to http://www.Formula1.com to check when other events are on.

Rules are simple. At each round there are 3 practice sessions, two on Friday one on Saturday, which help the teams determine the right setup of the car for the track. Then on Saturday they have the qualifying session.
There are 20 cars in the field. In the first part of qualifying there is 20 mintues to set the best time. If you are in the last 5 then you are out and another session starts. Out of those 15, only 10 will make it to the last session. Then you have the top ten fight it out to see who is on pole.

The race takes place on Sunday. Each circuit has a different number of laps to complete depending on the length of the track. During the race this year each driver has to pit to change tyres. This year they have to use both a set of soft compound tyres that are quicker, but don’t last long. And the hard compound which is not as fast but lasts longer.
Drive through penalties are given for a number of different reasons including causing a crash, jumping the start, speeding through pit lane etc. Pit lane speed is reduced to I think 40 km/h, or roughly.
Also this year most drivers have to pit to refuel. The tanks are full for qualifying and any fuel that is left is used in the race and may only fill up during the race, never between qualifying and the race.

Points are rewarded only down to 8th place:
1st-10
2nd-8
3rd-6
4th-5
5th-4
6th-3
7th-2
8th-1
Half points are rewarded if 75% of a race is not completed for different reasons. Last time that happened was at the Malaysian GP this year due to extremly heavy rain.
I may have left a few things out but that is the basics off the top of my head.
