What fabric can I sew with silk for a casual dress?
I am helping a really good friend making a costume that will be used for casual dress afterwards. The original design includes a sundress with one band of colour across the bust of the bodice, and the rest being a nice creamy white. We found a fabulous silk in an absolutely perfect colour, but we ran into a problem, since we intended to use a linen or a cotton for the rest of the dress. My mother, a very good seamstress, says you cannot use even a high-quality linen or a cotton with silk because it will not drape or fit right (something that should have been obvious to us at the time we bought the fabric).
So, my question is, what fabric would you recommend using with silk for casual wear?

Another silk fabric; a wicking polyester of appropriate drape, possibly some other things.
What sort of silk fabric did you buy? Twill? Jersey? Dupioni? Charmeuse? Noil? etc.etc. — what you’re trying to match will make a difference in what you choose.
