As the night draws the curtains
on daylight
the stage is set for this evening’s
performance…
the only mystery now
is who will play the lead?
Who will star in the never ending
saga of inner city blues
and trauma units?
It’s not the audience
that leaves in stitches….
or the spectators who purchase
tickets to be taken
to the edges of suspense… no
there are no thrill seekers here
No one pays to enter the tiers of hell
or bungee jump
from the ledges of madness
No one posts the the names of the dead
on a marquee
and royalties aren’t given to
the survivors…
Payment is all too often
outlined in chalk
or hosed away into the gutters
along with the souls
of another child lost
to the streets….
A wonderful write…(I watch programmes on tv of Trauma units in inner cities in USA sometimes and I am horrified by what I see….this captures what it seems to be like exactly)
My symphony was poverty
played on a one string guitar
Harsh parenting
Poor schooling
Inferior housing
A trinity sung in a minor key.
